Former Parks and Recreation co-stars Amy Poehler and Nick Offerman will reteam for a new reality competition series titled The Handmade Project that celebrates artisanship.Poehler and Offerman will co-host the six-episode series, which will air on NBC.
People who make things are my favorite kind of folk, Offerman said in a statement. Practical, clever and terrific in a pinch. That makes me tickled pink to have a front row seat at this prodigious display of talent, and admiring and cheering on an amazing crop of American makers. Plus, Amy and I have a strong tradition of tomfoolery so lets see if we dont have some good fun.
Offerman, like his Parks and Recreation character Ron Swanson, is particularly adept at woodworking, even penning a memoir about his time in his own wood shop, where he and his team tackle projects ranging from kitchen tables and bedroom furniture to storage units and handmade canoes.
The series will begin with eight makers taking on a variety of different projects that require a certain skillset, with those challenges increasing in difficulty over the course of the series. Each episode, another contestant will be eliminated until the ultimate maker is crowned at the end of the six-episode arc. Keeping with the Parks and Rec motif, each episode will be filmed outdoors as opposed to a studio.
Poehler added, Im thrilled to be celebrating artists who make things by hand, and Im looking forward to finally conquering my fear of paper mache.
