Showtime has canceled Cameron Crowes first television series Roadies, his music drama about the behind-the-scenes crews that bring tours to life, after one season.
Writer and director Crowe announced the cancellation in a post on his The Uncool site. Though we could tell a thousand more stories, this run ends with a complete ten-hour tale of music and love, Crowe wrote. Like a song that slips under your skin, or a lyric that keeps speaking to you, we hope the spell of Roadies lingers. It was life-changing experience for all of us.
The series, which starred Luke Wilson, Carla Gugino and Imogen Poots, opened with an estimated 499,000 viewers for its first episode. For its season finale, Roadies drew 500,000 viewers. Despite the consistent audience numbers, the lack of growth as well as the fact that Showtime didnt own the series persuaded the network to shed the series, The Hollywood Reporter writes.
During its run, Roadies featured guest spots and music from artists like Jackson Browne, Gary Clark Jr., Jim James, Robyn Hitchcock, Lindsey Buckingham and Eddie Vedder, who is also set to appear on Showtimes upcoming return to Twin Peaks.
Despite the Roadies cancelation, Crowe is already hinting that hes at work on another venture. Well see you soon with a new project and many of the same actors, Im sure, he wrote.
Roadies becomes the third music-related television series to be axed in recent months following HBOs Vinyl and FXs Sex&Drugs&Rock&Roll. Nashville was also canceled by ABC, but that series has since been picked up by CMT.
