Although initially assumed to be an elaborate April 1st ruse, it was later confirmed that Ferrells film, a send-up of the made-for-TV thrillers that the cable network pumps out on a yearly basis, was scheduled to premiere this summer to celebrate Lifetimes 25th anniversary. However, after the secret plans for the two-hour TV movie leaked out, Ferrell and Wiig have instead decided to forego the project entirely.
We are deeply disappointed that our planned top secret project was made public, Ferrell said in a statement to EW. Kristen and I have decided it is in the best interest for everyone to forego the project entirely, and we thank Lifetime and all the people who were ready to help us make this film. A Lifetime spokesman added, We are disappointed that our secret project with Will and Kristen was leaked and the network is determining the fate of the movie, suggesting that the parody still might air in the future.

The high-stakes thriller A Deadly Adoption was to star Wiig and Ferrell as a married couple who befriend a pregnant woman (played by 90210 actress Jessica Lowndes) in hopes of adopting her baby. From there, the situation spirals dangerously out of control, EW reported. The film, which is reportedly already finished, was executive produced by Ferrell and longtime collaborator Adam McKay and penned by The Spoils of Babylon co-creator Andrew Steele.
Almost as interesting as Ferrells secret Lifetime movie itself is the rumored Hollywood inner-workings that spoiled the surprise project. According to the AP, Ferrell and his agent Jason Heyman were among a group of high-profile agents and talent that left Creative Artists Agency for United Talent Agency on March 31st. Its believed that, as revenge, someone at Ferrells former agency leaked the A Deadly Adoption details as theanonymous source that originally informed The Hollywood Reporter of the project.
