Watch the National Perform You Had Your Soul With You on Colbert

The National took the stage at The Late Show to perform You Had Your Soul With You, a track off the bands upcoming eighth album I Am Easy to Find. The group played the shimmery indie rock number in front of video screens illuminated with the album artwork and lyrics from the song. In the clip, the band is accompanied by a group of string musicians and two backup singers (Gail Ann Dorsey lends her vocals to the recorded version).

I Am Easy To Find is out May 17th and includes several other previously released songs, includingLight YearsandHairpin Turns. The album follows the bands 2017 effort Sleep Well Beast and features guest vocals from Lisa Hannigan, Sharon Van Etten, Mina Tindle, Kate Stables and the Brooklyn Youth Choir. The band previewed the new album earlier this week with the release of their 24-minute film I Am Easy To Find, which was directed by filmmaker Mike Mills and stars Alicia Vikander. Mill said of the project, The National gave me the stems for their songs, some were sketches some were finished and encouraged and allowed me to create my own versions of the songs to score the film. The album then features different versions of these same seven songs and nine new songs which sometimes refer to the themes, texts, ideas from the film but are their own work, their own piece of art.

The National will head out on a tour of North America this week, kicking off the trek May 16th in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Courtney Barnett will open several dates. Tickets are on sale now.
