James Bond Haunted by Ghosts of His Past in Spectre Teaser

Spectre, the 24th film in the James Bond saga, is scheduledto hit theatersNovember 6th, and although the latest 007 flick is still in the midst of shooting, filmmakers unveiled a minute-long first look at what Daniel Craigs secret agentfaces in the aftermath of Skyfall.

As the official 007 YouTube pageexplains, A cryptic message from Bonds past sends him on a trail to uncover a sinister organization. While M battles political forces to keep the secret service alive, Bond peels back the layers of deceit to reveal the terrible truth behind SPECTRE. The setting shifts from London to Rome to the Alps, where Bond is warned, Youre a kite dancing in a hurricane.

The teaser offers up the first look at new Bond characters played by Monica Bellucci and, in silhouette, Christoph Waltz, who will portray Franz Oberhauser, the head of the aforementioned sinister organization. In the teaser, the Oberhauser surname also appears on an Order of Temporary Guardianship document that placed a young Bond into the care of Hannes Oberhauser, which suggestsSpectre will set up a battle between adoptive brothers.

The trailer also encapsulates how the franchise has changed in the hands of Academy Award-winning director Sam Mendes. The Pierce Brosnan-era Bond trailers would be dominated by gadgetry, stunts and cheeky one-liners. Under Mendes watch, the Bond series has come to rely more on mood, suspense and substance, with the giant action set pieces enhancing the story instead of guiding it.

The Special Executive for Counter-Intelligence, Terrorism, Revenge and Extortion, SPECTRE for short, played a large role in both early Bond films and author Ian Flemings original 007 stories. The organization hasnt officially appeared in a 007film since 1971s Diamonds are Forever.

At the time of casting, it was rumored that Waltz would portray Bond longtime nemesis Blofeld, the leader of SPECTRE who was previously played by actors Donald Pleasence and Telly Savalas. However, it appears that the bald-headed, cat-toting super villain has been rebooted after Blofield was successfully mocked by Mike Myers Dr. Evil in the Austin Powers series.
