Fleabag One-Woman Show Headed to Movie Theaters


Phoebe Waller-BridgesFleabag has been a runaway success, first as a one-woman show by the British writer and actress and then as an acclaimed, Emmy-nominated TV series. Now, the stage version of Fleabag is headed to movie theaters.

On September 12th,Fleabag fans will get the chance to see a live broadcast version of Waller-Bridges performance at Wyndams Theatre in London on the big screen. National Theatre Live, the company behind the broadcast, will also host encore screenings in select theaters.

Waller-Bridge, who is also the creator of the BBC seriesKilling Eve, debuted the one-woman Fleabag show Edinburgh Fringe Festival in 2013 and instantly drew critical attention. The plot of the stage play closely follows that of the series, depicting a young, self-obsessed woman grappling with grief and guilt in the wake of her best friends death. Waller-Bridge has been doing encore performances of the one-woman show following the success of the TV series, but her stints in New York and London have been sold out for months. She will play her final performance as Fleabag in London on September 14th.

Fleabag ran for two seasons on Amazon Prime, and Waller-Bridge has stated that she has no plans to continue it. Season 2 earned three Emmy nominations this year, including for Outstanding Comedy Series. Waller-Bridge recently announced plans to publish aFleabag book, containing the scripts for seasons 1 and 2.

On October 5th, Waller-Bridge will make her debut as the host ofSaturday Night Live, featuring musical guest Taylor Swift.
